Choose Your Backyard Adventure

As Kamloops winter begins to fade away and you’re still thinking about how to avoid cabin fever, the good news is that adventure is right outside your door: your hot tub. There are lots of fun hot tub-centered activities you can plan for the whole family. All it takes is a little creativity and a few party accessories to create a themed winter yard adventure.

For the Whole Family

You don’t have to hop in the car to enjoy the best parts of the season — the hot cocoa, the decorations and music, and the family fun. In fact, once you create a themed winter wonderland in your yard, you may never want to leave. Just string up some lights around your patio area and around your trees and shrubs, set up a hot chocolate and s’mores station if you’ve got a firepit, and create a playlist of holiday tunes. If you’ve got a video projector, you can even play a modern classic holiday movie. No matter which activity you choose to do, being with your loved ones in your cozy hot tub will surely warm your heart.

For the Kids

Sports doesn’t have to take place on the ice or in the snow. Not if you set up a hot tub hockey tournament for the kids (and those young at heart). All you need is a ping-pong ball to stand in for a puck, with the objective of getting it past your opponent, while they try to do the same to you. The catch? No hands allowed. Watch as players try to create waves with their bodies, or decide to do their best to try to blow the ball to the other side. Then, serve up some popular arena snacks like chicken fingers and fries, along with DIY “souvenir” cups the kids can decorate themselves with NHL team stickers.

For the Grown-Ups

Who says you have to play cards in a dimly lit room? Once you’ve invited your card-loving friends to play poker in your hot tub, you may never go back to the table. All you need is a deck of waterproof playing cards, and an upside-down Frisbee® to hold the poker chips. Then, go all in with some round-themed finger food snacks like cucumber slices topped with guacamole and shrimp or pinwheel wraps, and enjoy some mock whiskey (lime juice, ginger ale and a wedge of lime) to cap off the night.

For the Teens

Teenagers are too cool to let the cold ruin their fun. In fact, a luau-themed hot tub party is one of the best ways to beat the cold. Encourage guests to wear tropical-themed, brightly colored clothing, and hand out leis and sunglasses to welcome them when they arrive. Hang colorful decorations from a party supply store, blow up a few beach balls, and select some summer hits to set the mood (think Drake and Maroon 5). The last touch? Light up some Tiki torches and before you know it, young guests will forget all about the outside temperature.

No matter what’s in store, try to resist the urge to hibernate. A hot tub provides the perfect escape to beat the winter blahs. Now that you have some inspiration for enjoying your hot tub all year long, be sure to read up on how to keep your hot tub well maintained.
